Our Mission

Enhancing competencies in sports while promoting healthy lifestyles, social inclusion, and addressing critical issues such as violence, racism, and human rights within the realm of sports. We use an interdisciplinary approach to address societal problems and foster social awareness, aiming to illuminate new perspectives on tolerance and proactive societal engagement.

Our Vision

Using sports as a tool for social inclusion, reaching diverse target groups including children aged 6-13, young people aged 13-30, adult learners, and people with fewer opportunities. We focus on economically disadvantaged individuals, rural communities, persons with disabilities, minority groups, socially excluded youth, refugees and immigrants, and at-risk individuals.

Our Journey Through the Years

Explore the milestones that have shaped the City Sport Association and its impact on local sports.

1960s

Foundation of the Association

The City of Niš Basketball Association (CNBA) was established 65 years ago in the heart of Niš, Serbia.

What started as a small group of basketball enthusiasts has grown into one of the most prominent sports organizations in the southeast region of Serbia.

In those early years, our mission was simple: to bring people together through the love of basketball. We focused on organizing local competitions and providing opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills. Our founders believed that sports could be a powerful force for building community and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Over the first decades, CNBA became a unifying force in Niš, bringing together sports workers, referees, coaches, players, and physical education teachers. We established strong foundations that would support our growth for generations to come.

1980s-2000s

Era of Local Events and Competitions

As our organization matured, we began to expand our activities beyond basic training and competitions. This era marked the beginning of our most iconic annual events that continue to this day.

The City Basketball League was launched as our flagship competition, featuring youth categories from various basketball clubs across Niš. This annual tournament became a cornerstone of youth basketball development in our city.

The City Basketball Championship was established to encompass all educational levels – from primary schools to secondary schools and universities – creating a comprehensive competitive pathway for young athletes.

We also initiated The Sports Camp for Gifted Children, an annual basketball camp designed specifically for talented youngsters from the southeast region of Serbia. This camp provided opportunities for promising athletes to receive coaching from top basketball experts, many of whom were former professional players.

The Mini-Basket Festival became our traditional annual tournament for the youngest children, emphasizing the promotion of healthy lifestyles, fair play, and friendship rather than competitive outcomes.

2010-2015

Non-Formal Education and Social Inclusion

The new millennium brought a paradigm shift in our approach. We recognized that sports could be more than just competition – it could be a powerful tool for education, social inclusion, and addressing societal challenges.

This era marked CNBA’s evolution from a traditional sports federation into a comprehensive youth development organization using non-formal education principles, experiential learning, and intercultural learning methodologies.

Major Initiatives Launched:

Special Olympics for Disabled Children – We launched this groundbreaking project to challenge stereotypes surrounding individuals with intellectual disabilities. By facilitating their participation in sports activities, we promoted physical fitness and social inclusivity.

National Sports Day – We became active participants in this nationwide initiative, organizing events to promote physical activity among children across our region.

Humanitarian Basketball Tournament “Let’s Play 3×3 @Pantelej” (2017) – This annual 3×3 basketball event was launched with the primary objective of raising funds for humanitarian causes, combining sports with social responsibility.

Free Basketball School for Children – We established this annual project dedicated to fostering love for basketball among children, contributing to their proper physical and psychological development, with special focus on economically disadvantaged families.
